Create the person, place or thing

Think outside the box on this one - not necessarily a "scarecrow" - more like a cutting edge creation for the garden. You are only limited by your imagination!

• Traditional/Whirligig Scarecrow
A
combination of two old favorites! Pay homage to the scarecrows that
have been "scaring crows" from the farmer's fields and gardens for
centuries. You may choose to add parts that move or make noise when the
wind gusts to make it a true whirligig - either way your scarecrow has
it's work cut out for it here in the Village.

Make your scarecrow a group project -- school, church,
office, business, club, scout troop, neighborhood, etc. Put your
creative thinking caps on and conjure up a winner!

scarecrow interpretation of your favorite television character - human,

Kids 12 and under can enter and should do the majority
of creation themselves in a category that gives kids the opportunity to
compete with their peers.

OFFICIAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
1. Fill out an entry form and return to Peddler's
Village by September 5, 2012. A written description of your entry and
title must accompany your OFFICIAL SCARECROW COMPETITION ENTRY BLANK. Peddler's Village reserves the right to refuse a scarecrow entry which we feel may be offensive to the general public.
2.
Scarecrows must be built on a 1 1/2 inch square post. When
you drop off your scarecrow, Peddler's Village will provide a pipe
secured in the ground at your display location for you to insert your
post. Only one pipe per entry is supplied. The pipe is approximately
12" - 18" long and can accommodate a 1 1/2 inch square post.
3. Please attach a
permanent weatherproof sign on the lower part of your scarecrow stand with the name of your entry.
4. Scarecrows
may not touch the ground; and no materials may be put on the ground around or under your scarecrow.

IMPORTANT: Your scarecrow MUST BE WEATHER-RESISTANT & STURDY
in order to qualify for displaying and judging. Consider the wind and
rain when choosing and securing materials to your creation. We strongly
encourage entrants to visit their creations in the Village often for
periodic check-ups. During the time your entry is on display you may
make any necessary repairs. Peddler's Village reserves the right to
remove any scarecrows that do not hold up to the weather.
6.
NO PERISHABLE GOODS may be used in the construction of your scarecrow (i.e., pumpkins, squash, etc.).
7.
Peddler's Village is NOT RESPONSIBLE for the security of the scarecrows on display.
8. Your scarecrow must be brought to the Gazebo on
Sunday, September 9, between the hours of noon and 2 pm for check-in
and set-up.
NO EARLY CROWS.
PEDDLER'S VILLAGE REPRESENTATIVES WILL BE AT THE VILLAGE GAZEBO TO
GIVE YOU YOUR OFFICIAL ENTRY NUMBER AND SCARECROW LOCATION. Scarecrows will be on display until Sunday, October 28, 2012.
10. The public may vote for their favorites
THE FIRST THREE WEEKS
of the contest. Winners will be announced and posted on our website by
Monday, October 1. Prizes will be mailed following the competition.
11.
Scarecrows must be picked up Sunday, October 28 between 5 and 6 pm.
Any scarecrows that are not claimed and whose creator(s) have not
arranged for alternative pick-up by October 30 will become the property
of Peddler's Village.
12. Peddler's Village reserves the right to photograph
entries for any promotional purpose. Photographs become the property of
Peddler's Village.
13. Scarecrow contestants who take their entries are
taken off the property prior to the close of the display or remove their
entries for promotional purposes during the display without expressed
written permission from Peddler's Village will forfeit their prizes and
titles and not be allowed to enter future scarecrow competitions.
